This is my first freehand shape
that I did.  I decided to keep the
pipe as I don't have a large
freehand.  The bowl is 7/8 wide
and nearly 2 inches deep.
This Author was made for my Brother
in Law for Christmas.  The bottom half
has some nice grain with the top
around the rim showing some beautiful
birdseye.
Below is an Author/ Bent Apple I made for
Brian Richardson
First pipe I sold.  This was
another author/apple
. .  Pictures
by the owner Andrew Austin.
Pipe 04

A beautiful pot that has my first lucite stem on it.  The stain is a
walnut/virgin twotone.  There are only two pits, though noticeable, the
pipe still has a nice look to it.   Some nice grain along the pipe and
beautiful birdseye along the rim.

Pipe 02

This is a nice chubby author with a hand rustication ringing the bottom
and shank.  I used a light virgin stain to highlight the grain.  The stem is a
premold vulcanite.

the grain.  The specs of the pipe are

Another nice author though a bit on the darker side....  A black and walnut contrast
was used to obtain this color and while dark in person is quite pleasing to the eye.
The bottom of the pipe is rusticated to add to the dark look of the pipe.  A bit bigger
bowl capacity, I nice lounging pipe for the evening!

Pipe 03

My best billiard by far at this point.  I am very happy with this one turned
out, both with the grain, drilling, and stem.  There are a few small pits,
but nothing major.  The stain is a cherry red lightened up by a few coats
of virgin stain.    All in all a nice pipe.

Pipe 05

An apple, I love the shape.  I had this pipe evaluated by many people at
Chicago and feel it was my best work at the time.  The stain is a cherry
over black, giving a nice contrast to the grain.  The pipe is very light and
fits well in the hand.

Pipe 09

This particular pipe has been sitting unfinished for quite sometime.  I
simply didn't know what I was looking for then an apple popped out to
me one day.  The pipe is partially rusticated and has a nice walnut stain
to show off the grain.  This is another favorite shape of mine.

Pipe 10

At first this pipe started out as an apple, then I wanted a bent brandy.
Finally I decided to mix the two together.  This pipe has some wonderful
straight grain and beautiful birdseye along the bottom.  This is the first
pipe were I started to think of cutting stems.  I used the same style as on
my authors and cut it down to a saddle bit as I had none big enough for
the shank.  The stain is a red under stain with some virgin to lighten it
up.  A very nice pipe that sits on its own.

Pipe 07

Another author shaped pipe.  I love this shape and really enjoy carving
them.  This one is chubby pipe with some very nice grain and the walnut
stain does a great job of showing this off.  It fits wonderfully in the hand.
The finish is absolutely beautiful with a great shine to it.

Pipe 08

This is a custom order pipe.  He wanted the pipe fully rusticated and
asked for a billiard.  I went to work on this one and had several mishaps,
including an accident that required a new stem be fitted.  All in all it
turned out very nice and think I will be doing more fully rusticated pipes
in the future.
